Sugar-Free Dessert Recipes: Indulge Without the Guilt

Dessert is by far my favorite meal course as I’m sure it is for many. It’s too bad that the best part of the meal is also the worst for our waistlines, if not our health. I like to mitigate problems so I can enjoy the best of all possibilities, this is why I always research ways to make life easier and more enjoyable. It is with this state of mind that I present some of my favorite sugar-free dessert recipes.

If you are diabetic and miss having a bit of sweetness in your life, this post is for you. If you’re on a diet or striving for a healthier way of eating, this post if for you. As a matter of fact, anyone will enjoy these dessert recipes and if you don’t tell them, no one will guess they’re sugar-free!

Just a heads up that most of these recipes will be chocolate-based (because chocolate) and use my favorite sugar-free sweetener, monksweet+ with stevia. If you prefer, feel free to substitute with any sugar-free sweetener of your choice. Just make sure that you account for the bulk factor when substituting. If possible, stick as closely as possible to the recipes as written and you should achieve excellent results. Now without further ado, sugar-free dessert recipes coming up!

Chocolate Trail Mix Bark

This chocolate trail mix bark is my go-to when I feel like eating a crunchy, nutty, chocolate bar. Of course, since I’m watching my weight, I can’t just go out and buy a Cadbury’s fruit and nut bar or a Snickers bar. Instead, I came up with my own candy bar in the form of this chocolate trail mix bark. As with most of my recipes, this chocolate bark is made with only a few ingredients – cocoa butter, cocoa powder, anti-oxidant trail mix, and my favorite sugar-free sweetener, monksweet+ with stevia.

I feel a twinge of guilt every time I take a bite of this bark and I have to remind myself that it doesn’t have any added sugar and will not throw me off my weight loss goals. This chocolate trail mix bark is just sweet enough with the addition of monksweet+ with stevia along with the dried fruit from the anti-oxidant trail mix. I achieve dessert nirvana with this bark – chocolatey, crunchy, and sweet!

Sugar-Free Cheesecake

I am an avowed chocoholic, but every so often I like a nice, silky piece of cheesecake. At one point I thought I’d never be able to enjoy cheesecake again. Although it is one of the more decadent desserts, the dairy and sugars in cheesecake threatened to derail my diet.

I’m lactose intolerant and on a low-carb diet so I thought I had to forego enjoying cheesecake for the foreseeable future. My outlook changed when I discovered that there is such a thing as lactose-free organic cream cheese. Not only could I have cream cheese and lox again, but I could have cheesecake too! The right recipe sweetened with monksweet+ with stevia is just what I needed.

I found a basic cheesecake recipe and modified it using Green Valley Lactose-free Cream Cheese. I also made it keto-friendly by making a THM flour and nut crust instead of the usual graham cracker crust. This recipe results in a creamy, tangy cheesecake with just the right amount of sweetness. I make this anytime I have a craving for cheesecake and it hits the spot perfectly.

Keto Chocolate Mousse

And I’m back to chocolate, it’s inevitable because chocolate is my weakness and my strength. To be honest, I don’t have dessert every day. I have evolved in my eating and I’m at the point where I can listen to my body and feed it what it needs. There are some days when I feel like eating something sweet and other days when I absolutely must have some chocolate.

My diet these days is essentially high fat and low carb, so any dessert I make has to incorporate these tenets. Although I could make this chocolate mousse using traditional ingredients like eggs, heavy cream, milk, etc., and sweeten it with a low-carb sweetener, I chose to make a modified version that’s much healthier in my view.

I make my keto chocolate mousse using coconut cream, coconut milk, vanilla extract, and a bit of coffee powder for a hint of mocha flavor. I’ve offered this chocolate mousse to people who are not following any particular diet and they rave about it every time. My cousin who is a vegan fitness trainer and a fellow chocoholic inhales it every time I make it. It’s definitely a keeper.

Sugar-Free Brownies

I can’t claim to be a chocoholic if I didn’t include a brownie recipe in this post. I use a basic brownie recipe and substitute some of my favorite ingredients to make it sugar-free, healthy, and delicious. For this brownie, I use einkorn flour, monksweet+ with stevia as well as walnuts for crunch and chocolate chips for an extra pop of chocolate.

I use Earth Balance spread instead of butter, but feel free to modify this sugar-free brownie as you see fit. The only caveat is you have to use a sugar-free sweetener instead of sugar. This brownie is not cakey or too dense, it has a soft crumb with just enough chew. It’s delicious with a bowl of vegan ice cream (sugar-free of course!).

Yes, You Can Have Your Dessert And Eat It Too

No matter what way of eating you follow, there’s always room for dessert. Even if you are diabetic, you can still enjoy dessert. You can modify almost any dessert recipe to make it sugar-free and healthier. I’ve only offered a few of the possibilities in this post, but the possibilities are endless and limited only by your imagination.

Do you have a favorite dessert recipe that you don’t enjoy anymore because of sugar or another forbidden ingredient? Let me know and we can work together to come up with a version of your dessert recipe that you can enjoy. Until then, Happy Eating!

  • Thank you very much for these tips about sugar free dessert recipes!
I love cakes in general. Especially chocolate brownies I love! but it’s not exactly good for my blood sugar or my weight.
So I’m really glad I found this site with many nice recipes. I’ll write them out and give them to my wife.
It was pretty smart to make them without sugar. I haven’t thought about that. Although drinking some sugar-free soda already.

Why you use I earth balance spread instead of butter?
    Thanks again!

    • Hi Erlend,

I’m glad to have provided some sugar free options for you. I use earth balance because I like to reduce saturated fats in my recipes wherever I can so I use a vegan spread instead of butter.

      Cheers,

      Dawn

  • Awesome post! I will definitely try your recipe for the cheesecake (I love cheesecake so much) and probably the other ones too. One of my favorite dessert is with whipped cream (like a strawberry shortcake) but this is really rich you know… if you can have a recipe for that it’d be very nice! 😀
    Thanks for sharing!

  • Generally, the article is so well presented and with complete details as to the ingredients, the cooking instructions, and nutritional facts. Pictures are perfectly presented as well. Good job.

  • Just recently my wife and I have been trying to eat healthier.  It has been a struggle and when it comes to deserts therein lies my greatest struggle.

Your website caught my attention since healthy eating is new to me.  And your post on Sugar Free Desert Recipes was too intriguing not to read.  At first I thought the recipes would be bland and unappetizing, but you made me rethink that point.

I particularly want to try the Chocolate Trail Mix Bark and the Sugar Free Cheesecake recipes and want to thank you for sharing. Love that you also include the nutrition facts for each recipe.  Plus, thank you for making this post available through the print option on your page.

  • This post is just what I needed! I’m on a keto diet and have been looking for sweets I can make at home with out all the extra carbs and calories and sugar, and you really have some great ones here. Especially the bark, I think i’ll be making that tomorrow. I noticed you have brownies on here too, which I love by the way, i’m such a chocolate fein. Have you tried making your brownies with almond or coconut flour to cut back the carbs a bit? I haven’t tried it but I want to, but if you have, please let me know how it taste because I heard it wasn’t as great at regular flour. I have been dying for some brownies and cool whip.
Thanks so much for sharing this, now I have something to look forward to.

    • Hi Jay,

After trying several diets including Keto and low carb, I’ve decided to keep Einkorn flour because it’s much healthier than the low carb options. Eating too much omega-6 which is what you’d get in almond flour, is inflammatory and unhealthy. Not so with the einkorn flour. As long as I don’t eat too much in any one day I manage to stay within my carb intake limits.

      Cheers,

      Dawn

  • Just like you, my favorite meal course is the dessert but I’ve stopped taking it since it was affecting my health because I have a very low tolerance to sugar. This piece came at the right time for me because it would aid me to eat what I love to eat back without being afraid of my health. I like that the recipes are in chocolate. I will try the sugar free cheesecake first because I have all the ingredients here with me at home.
